
The Agronomy and Horticulture Graduate Student Associations (AHGSA) puts on an annual poster competition with the help of the Agronomy and Horticulture Graduate Committee. Winners are awarded prizes and students have an opportunity of show off their research and project efforts. This year’s judges were Dr. Specht,. Dr. Walters, Dr. Hoegemeyer, Dr. Sarath, Dr. Paparozzie, Dr. Lindquist, and Dr. Baenziger.

Saadia Bihmidine
Expression of a viral aquaglyceroporin gene (AQPV1) from Chlorella virus MT325s in tobacco and its effect in mitigating drought
Saadia Bihmidine is a PhD student working in Dr. Tom Clemente’s lab. Her advisor is Dr. Tala Awada in the School of Natural Resources. Saadia is involved in several interdisciplinary research projects with researchers and experts from different fields (including Dr. Julie Stone, Dr. James Specht, Dr. Donald Weeks, Dr. Jim Van Etten, and Dr. David Dunigan). She is interested in understanding how plants respond to abiotic stresses (mainly drought) at both the physiological and molecular levels.

Hyunwoo Park
Development of soybean oil low in palmitic acid and elevated in stearic and oleic acids for biodiesel
Hyunwoo Park is a PhD student in Dr. Clemente’s lab. He is studying the modification of the fatty acid profile of soybean oil for nutritional and industrial applications through genetic engineering.
