How to apply to the Nebraska Molecular Plant Breeding Program

You are encouraged to initiate contact with one or more of our faculty. Such contact can be of importance in promoting your application and provide you with more information about graduate research opportunities.For plant breeding research opportunities in biofuels, please visit the Sweet Sorghum Research page.

Submit the following application materials:

  1. Complete the UNL Graduate Application Form. In the graduate application, you must select in the drop down box:
    - Major/Degree --> Agronomy PhD
    - Specialization --> Plant Breeding and Genetics
  2. Two (2) Official transcripts (Not photocopies) from all accredited colleges and universities attended. GPA of 3 or better.

    Please send also to the Agronomy and Horticulture department.

  3. Application Procedure:

    Applicants should submit:

    • A completed UNL Graduate Studies application and $45 application fee.
    • Two official transcripts from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.
    • Official GRE scores
    • Three letters of recommendation. Download this form in PDF or Word format
    • A letter stating your background and professional goals in pursuing an advanced degree.

    International students must also provide:

    • TOEFL score of at least 500 (paper based), iBT 61, or 173 (computer based); or a minimum score of 6 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Scores cannot be over two years old.
    • Financial Resource Certification Form

Deadlines

    The deadline for Fall admission is March 1.
